As we recognize National Kidney Month, we are excited to join the National Kidney Foundation (NKF) “Are You the 33%?” campaign to raise awareness on the importance of early detection of chronic kidney disease (CKD). As part of the campaign, Americans can take a one-minute quiz to see if they have a higher risk for kidney disease. Those who are at-risk can then request a Minuteful Kidney test kit and have it delivered directly to them, completely free of charge.
In addition to receiving their at-home test kit, those who are found to be at higher risk for kidney disease will have access to the NKF’s inventory of educational resources, which will help them better understand the disease and the next steps, such as following up with their healthcare provider. The campaign is designed to raise awareness around the dangers of CKD and the value of identifying the disease early by making testing and information accessible to all. By utilizing Minuteful Kidney, people of diverse income levels, races, ethnicities, and geographies can check for kidney damage, and receive results, all from the comfort of their homes.
The ‘Are You the 33%?’ campaign aims to raise awareness of the importance of early kidney disease detection. CKD has been affecting underserved communities disproportionately - Black Americans, for example, are almost four times more likely to develop kidney failure than white Americans. Working to promote kidney health equity for all and increasing access to early detection are top priorities for NKF. A whole system approach is required to tackle barriers to testing, and an easy-to-use test in the palm of so many hands is a first step to engaging Americans at risk for kidney disease with their clinicians for additional testing and care. Additional care should include confirmatory uACR assessments and the blood test for kidney function, called the estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR).
